RECOVERY & REENTRY
On The Mark
Building a Peer-Led Bridge to Stability in Asheville, NC
Peer-Led. Community-Driven.
Our Mission
To provide short-term, dignified supportive housing for men returning to the Asheville community from incarceration or treatment. We are a grassroots organization led by Peer Support Specialists, dedicated to the belief that the best guides for the journey home are those who have walked the path themselves.

The Challenge
Reentry Starts Here
The Reentry Gap: 1 in 4 people released from NC
prisons face immediate homelessness. The Asheville Crunch: Following the housing losses of 2024–2025, Asheville’s rental market is at 99% occupancy. For those with a record, "Day 1" is often a cliff, not a transition. The Cost of Inaction: Homelessness and recidivism cost Buncombe County millions in emergency services and jail cycles.
The Solution
A Safer Second Chance
We are launching a 6-bed, peer-staffed residential home in Buncombe County.Peer-Led Accountability: 24/7 mentorship from
Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS).
Workforce Integration: Immediate connection to
Asheville’s service and construction sectors.Recovery Capital: Using the evidence-based BARC-10 model to track social, physical, and financial growth.

Our Team

Kathryn Promer & Shauna Moran are Asheville Community members with lived experience with
Houselessness, SUD & MH, and Incarceration. As Certified CPSS’s with a combined 5+ years of fieldwork, they support people in all stages of recovery, including finding their pathway to sustainable, long term, recovery.
Mark's Story
The driving force behind starting up On the Mark is the many stories of people who might have had a chance in recovery had they had a place to get on their feet.Mark Garrity’s story is one such story that could have ended up very differently had he gotten the chance to stay at a true transitional house.Once released he had very little time to find a place to stay and work towards recovery. He ended up in a shelter downtown Raleigh, had a return to use and was killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.He was judged for his struggles with addiction and had he been given the time and space to figure out how to support himself things would have turned out much differently.

HOUSING IS THE FOUNDATION. PEER SUPPORT IS THE BLUEPRINT.
